The Third World War, the Second Cold War, or the Next Crusade?
The Lecture examins the deepening conflict in west asia with a focus on America's history of official animosity with Islamic Iran. An understanding of the Valiyat-e-faqih system and its resilience and the Shia theocracy as a custodian of Islamic interests in the modern world.

Prof. Saumyajit Ray specializes in the politics, religion, and society of the United States, with particular focus on conservatism, evangelical Christianity, race, and political movements. His research also explores global themes such as the Cold War, religious nationalism, ethnic conflict, and comparative political movements. He has over 17 years of teaching experience, offering MA and PhD courses on American politics, religion and state relations, and Cold War international relations.
