Research Methodologies in Computer Science
A four-week, hands-on workshop to get you research-ready for Computer Science students.
Eligibility: Grade 12 and above with strong background in Computer Science.
Duration: Mondays and Fridays for 4 weeks
Date: August 18, 2025.
Mode: Live Classes | ZOOM Led
Time: 7 pm to 9 pm NPT.
Course Fee: NPR 8999 (Free for KC Guided Research Members)
Mentors: Aditi Palit | Visual Computing Expert | Ph.D, Indian Institute of Technology.
Balbeer Singh | Physics Research Expert | Ph.D, Indian Institute of Technology.
From the first question to final draft: learn to conduct research grounded in best practices.
Research Methodologies in Computer Science is a workshop designed for students and early researchers looking to build practical skills in academic research. Across eight classes spread through four weeks, you will be guided by IITian PhD scholars Aditi Palit, and Balbeer Singh. You will work through key stages of the research process from scratch: from asking the right questions to presenting findings in a structured format and polishing your final draft for publication.
To ensure you have a grasp of the classes conducted, each week will also include tailored assessment modules.
By the end of the workshop, you will not only have learnt the technicalities of research, but also gained hands-on experience in employing appropriate artificial intelligence (AI) tools and online resources like Zotero, and be well-versed in the dos and don’ts of ethical research.

Class 1: Introduction to Research
Class 2: Identifying Research Problems & Literature Search
Assessment
● Quiz #1: Research Basics & Ethics + two short scenarios on plagiarism/IRB ethics (10%)
● Search and Gap Note: One-page note listing (a) a research gap and (b) three papers with metadata and rationale
In the first week, we will understand the fundamentals of research across two classes. Participants will be introduced to core research types, the structure of the research process, and basic ethical considerations. They will also learn how to identify research gaps and navigate academic databases to locate relevant literature. By the end of the week, participants will complete a short quiz on research basics and ethics and submit a one-page note outlining a research gap and relevant sources.
Meet Your Mentors
Aditi Palit
A doctoral student of Computer Science at the Indian Institute of Technology, Tirupati, Aditi Palit has been working as a Teacher’s Assistant since 2021.
Currently in her fifth year, Aditi’s research focuses on Federated Learning: an advanced area of machine learning that deals with decentralized data processing, data privacy and security.
Her passion for research has led her to intern in organizations such as Adobe and Ericsson in the past, and has published numerous papers on AI and Computer Vision.

Balbeer Singh
Currently pursuing a PhD in Physics at the Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur, Balbeer Singh brings a strong interdisciplinary foundation in both mathematics and physics. His research focuses on theoretical physics, with particular interest in string theory and black hole physics—areas that challenge the frontiers of scientific understanding.
As a researcher and mentor, Balbeer is committed to supporting learners at all levels—whether in problem-solving, mastering core concepts, or navigating advanced topics in mathematical and physical theory.
