In the Beginning:
Origin Stories and the Seeds of Storytelling
Speaker:
Prof. Janice Pariat, Author and Historian
Every culture begins with a spark—a word, a gesture, a god breathing life into dust, a river giving rise to the world. Origin stories are not simply myths; they are mirrors, revealing what mattered to the people who spoke them: the mountains they lived beneath, the animals they revered, the spirits they feared or trusted. This talk journeys through creation stories from many lands, tracing how they root us in place and history, and how they continue to shape the way we imagine beginnings on the page today.
